What we both know is the statistics…over a million young people not yet in education and employment, 1 in 5 young people feel that their life is not worth living, over 3 million young people living in poverty, mental ill health on the increase amongst 15 -21 year olds, higher numbers of self harmers, increase in bullying and harrassment and more convictions for knife crimes (to name but a few.)
In the right environment all young people can flourish, develop their potential, find their identity and create meaning out of their life.
We offer a range of seminars and workshops for young people.
Talk to us, we can run events from 2 hours to full weeks.
Like you, we believe in the potential of young people. Too often we sadly see this potential go to ‘waste’ or even worse, young people entering their adulthood fearful: lacking in confidence, resilience, motivation and self efficacy.
We have worked with young people who have given up all hope for their future before they even get started!
It doesn’t have to be this way. Our courses may be a small drop in the ocean, compared to everything young people have to deal with, yet we know (from the feedback young people give us) what and how they learn with us does make a difference.
A Person Centred Approach
Drawing out the skills, talents, strengths and uniqueness of each young person (and building these up further). The result: increased confidence and self esteem as well as helping the young person identify with who they actually are.
A Focus on Resilience and Accountability
We don’t hide the fact that life is not always going to be a ‘bed of roses’ and the ‘reality’ is that, we cannot control all the external events in a young persons life. What we can do is teach young people how to ‘bounce back’ quicker and handle more effectively what life ‘could’ throw in their path?
We challenge beliefs, assumptions and habits so that young people take full accountability and face adversity:a skill, once mastered, lasts all their life.
Increased Self Awareness
This is usually reserved for psychology, however in our experience talking about qualities such as esteem, confidence, control, wisdom, emotional intelligence, empathy, understanding, determination and personal power helps a young person grow and increase their interpersonal and intrapersonal skills.
Love For Learning
By the time most young people reach us many have already developed a hatred, discontent, negativity and barrier for learning!
The desire to learn is vital to ongoing health, happiness and emotional well-being, if needed we undo the negative experiences of the past and instil new positive learning experiences (by our methods, approach and content.) The result: the young person through their curiosity, learns, how to learn for life.
Belief Changing
Many young people believe they lack the knowledge, creativity, focus, drive and enterprise mindset, to actually make their mark on the world. Throughout our courses we challenge these assumptions, perceptions and beliefs. Young people already possess the skills of problem solving, goal setting, independence and looking for alternatives and determination.
Our role is to assist young people to see these skills within themselves and start using them to their advantage.
Collaboration
This includes ‘team working’, yet the young people will also learn about serving others, making an impact, engaging, tolerance, leadership, morals and ethics, and citizenship. How? By the way we deliver, what we teach, our methods and supportive approach.
Immediate Feedback
All to often young people are ‘delivered a programme’, force fed information (sometimes excellent, sometimes not) from so called ‘experts’ yet, they may not see the purpose because of the style of training, content or relevance.
On our programmes, we facilitate, while the young people lead and manage themselves (and to do this takes skill) the young people, set the deadlines, outcomes and goals to meet (individually and as part of team).
And lastly…
Of course all our trainers, workers and facilitators have an Enhanced Disclosure (Scotland) and relevant youth work experience (including residential).
Types of Seminars/Workshops
e.g. Brain Boost
It’s a Workout For The Brain! Most of us by the time we have finished school, entered the workplace or further education, lived another 40 odd years STILL have no idea what’s really going on ‘upstairs’! This is a fun, highly interactive, quick paced event that will engage and inspire.
It’s All A Mindset
This interactive programme is aimed at teaching young people about confidence, self esteem, positive self regard, emotional and social well-being. Mindset includes: how to manage emotions, recognise opportunities, set effective goals, why resilience, motivation and accountability do matter, how to respond to feedback (positive and/or negative), how to question beliefs, habits and attitudes and how to challenge themselves.
State of The Art
State of The Art events are run by ourselves and professional actors, artists, production managers and video producers who are trained to offer young people a safe environment to explore real life situations, discuss any issues and talk about alternative life choices.
